Customer Reviews
Unfortunately, my euphoria soured once I received them, mounted one on the wall, and attempted to use it. The first issue is that paper towel rolls are 11" wide. When I pulled out the spring-loaded knob and inserted the paper towel roll into one of the end cups, there was not enough distance between the cup on one end and the cup on the other end to allow the paper towel roll to be easily inserted. It can be arm-wrestled into place, but not before crinkling up the end of the paper towel roll. Measuring the available distance between the two cups when the spring-loaded knob was pulled out, it shows about 10-3/4". Short to begin with, but that measurement does not take into account the outside diameter of the paper towel roll, and the angle that the roll is at when installing the roll into the holder, because the only way that the paper towel roll can be installed is to stick one end into one cup, then wrestle the other end into the other cup. So, the 10-3/4" distance is not near adequate to install a paper towel roll without damage. To solve this issue, I shortened each cup by about 3/8", which, while not perfect, allowed the paper towel roll to be installed without too much effort.
Second issue: When the holder is mounted horizontally on the wall, the spring-loaded cup would not hold the paper towel roll in place; it would pivot on the threaded shaft and not hold the roll securely. To improve, I installed a washer and nut on the back side of the spring-loaded cup to firmly clamp it to the shaft and eliminate any potential flexing.
As mentioned, this product is of excellent quality, and has great potential, but is lacking in its execution. Made in China - maybe the Chinese have smaller paper towel rolls than we do in the USA. It is much more expensive than the plastic or metal holders that are on the market. Being more expensive, it should be the best paper towel holder one can buy, and not need to be re-engineered to get it to work. Four to go.
