My unit came with the float mechanism damaged, so the first time I used it I heard the parts clunk down the drain. Called Thetford to get a new float mechanism, and they sent me a whole new unit. This on had the upper lid for the hose broken! Between the two of them I may have a useable unit. Overall design is OK, but the components need to be made better.

one review said he filled the unit with clean water. Did you stick a hose in the tank and run it full blast? you may have damaged it your self. they are built to take low flow into the tank....

Purchased this product about three weeks ago in anticipation of towable camper. Purchased camper yesterday and decided to try out the portable waste tank with clean water. Good thing it was clean water! When water came over the top of the float alert figured out the float didn't work. Then hauled the water to simulate campground setting and the handle almost came off. Then the handle would not retract and click back into place because the clicking mechanism wouldn't work therefore you would be unable to tow it behind a vehicle (as the directions state it must be retracted to town behind a vehicle). Then dumped the clean water and the foam floats came out. Thank goodness it was clean water! Returned the tank to our starting position and the handle would not lock into the bottom because the lock mechanism was worn out. I am going to call Thetford tomorrow.

I like this product. Easy to use and wheels across grass well. May cause a little spill when taking off trailer but a plastic bag lined with paper towels, catch that. Would recommend.

HORRIBLE First when I received it the float for the gage was rolling around in the tank. I had to unscrew assembly and fish out the float and connect it back to the gage. When you push the button to extend the handle it pinches your finger. After the first use the gage fell apart again had to be put together again... this time with glue. With the handle extended and connected to the hitch while towing it to the dump station, if you step on the brake it disconnects from the hitch. The drain hose is awkward and hard to use. The tank can not be emptied completely.
