RV Power Inverters

RV Power inverters are nice to have in your RV for when you are dry camping and do not have access to 120 volt shore power.

Inverters convert 12 volt DC power from your RV batteries and convert it into 120 volt AC power which is what most RV appliances such as TV's, microwaves, coffee pots or most other large appliances operate on. You will notice that inverters have two different capacity ratings, continuous output rating and surge output rating. Continuous output rating is the amount of wattage that the inverter can sustain on a continuous operating basis. Surge output rating is the amount of wattage an inverter can output on start up of the appliance. Most appliance's require a higher start up wattage than the wattage required to operate on a contiued basis.

Modified sine wave and pure sine wave inverters are generally more expensive to purchase, however they are more reliable and the power output is similar to any power company.

Make sure when replacing any inverter that the surge rating on the inverter is a higher wattage then the appliance requires for start up.

Remember that a power inverter is drawing power from your 12 volt RV chassis battery and you will need to recharge the batteries from a generator or some other charging mechanism.
